Mosaic style options

Updated: Apr 9, 2022

At MyPhotoFusion we have a number of photo mosaic styles to choose from so if you're looking for something a little different from your standard grid based mosaic we hopefully have something of interest for you. In this post we'd like to go over each of the different design options we offer to help give you an idea as to the option that works best for you.

There are two factors to the different styles and these are tile layout & tile shape. Some layouts have different tile shapes available and can suit some designs / image content better than others.

The different styles we can offer are:
  1. Grid Mosaic

  2. Vertical Grid Mosaic

  3. Horizontal Grid Mosaic

  4. Angled Grid Mosaic

  5. Scatter Mosaic

  6. Parquet Mosaic

  7. Voronoi Mosaic

Tile shapes are:
  1. Landscape

  2. Portrait

  3. Square

  4. Circle

  5. Hexagon

  6. Custom

The Grid Mosaic

The classic grid mosaic is available with Landscape, Portrait & Square tiles. This mosaic style along with the angled grid variant style can have tile subdivision. This is an option that will create larger tiles in areas of low detail in the main image and smaller subdivided tiles in areas of higher frequency detail. This can help capture and focus the attention in areas of importance like the features on a face etc.

The Vertical Grid Mosaic:

The vertical grid mosaic is available with Landscape, Portrait, Square, Circle & Hexagonal tiles.

This grid pattern is a brick pattern with tiles offset vertically in alternating columns of the mosaic.

The Square, Circle & Hexagon tiles are best for squarer tile images (although all tile images can be pre cropped for use with this tile shape if you only provide landscape or portrait images)

The Horizontal Grid Mosaic:

The horizontal grid mosaic is available with Landscape, Portrait, Square, Circle & Hexagonal tiles.

Same as the vertical grid this grid pattern is a brick pattern but with tiles offset horizontally in alternating rows of the mosaic.

The Angled Grid Mosaic:

The angled grid mosaic is available with same options as the standard grid mosaic but the tile pattern can be rotated to any angle offering a unique twist to the design.

Parquet Mosaic:

The parquet mosaic has the tiles arranged in a parquet pattern and the number of landscape & horizontal tiles within the pattern can be adjusted. This is a great option to mix up the use of landscape & portrait images if you have a good selection of both in your collection without having to crop or rotate images.

Ring & Spiral Mosaic:

The ring and spiral mosaic arrange the tiles in more of a circular pattern which can work really well with some images. The tiles are either arranged in concentric rings or a continues spiral out from the centre of the image and can have Landscape or Square tiles shapes.

Scatter Mosaic:

The scatter mosaic is based on the standard grid mosaic but adds overlapping to the tiles and also a random rotation amount to give the more jumble / random scatter type look. Works really well with larger tile outline to look like randomly aligned photographs rather than the normal perfect aligned mosaic grids.

Voronoi Mosaic:

The Voronoi mosaic is formed out of a cell noise pattern and has unique tile shapes.
